The daily speed paint group on Facebook. Simple rules, no photos, 30 min paintings. These are challenging and super fun. Some of these were over the allotted 30 min and some I never posted because they took well north of 40min.  And some were even taken down by the moderators of the group, rules are rules.  And as you can see some were more success then others. Also there is plenty that were attempted and never warranted to be saved because of how badly I failed. I've learned a lot about how I paint and what if any process I follow. In the future I'll try to post these on the month they were done because, this is a pig post.

quick

it’s been a minute, well a couple at least… Between feedings, work, sleep, and changing diapers. I squeezed in 2 hours to do some sketching and painting. Oh man and it was a hard fought 2 hours. If I get more time I would like to take this one further. (probably won’t so I’ll just do another painting)
Also been doing a lot of photo mash so it was nice to just let the brushes do the painting

City, cars, tunnels, "in the future"

Needed to finish this one.  It's been in the hard drive for a while waiting for me to get back to it.  It's been there for a year I think.

Normal and Advanced II

More from Galaxy Saga card game. These were challenging making a guy wear a holigraphic mask. Fun to think up the armor and the weapons though.

Unexpected free time Photo mash!

I have come across some time suddenly so I did the photo mash.  I had a free weekend so I was kind of losing my mind with all the free time a full weekend brings here's what I got up to among other things.

Normal and Advanced

So this finishes the trilogy of work from free lancing in 2012. I got contacted by a very cool Japanese company to do some work for a Sci fi card game. I work on these on the weekend and there a real treat from rough to finish it's always a challenging but only in the best possible way.

Project Halo 4 ... Terminals

© 2012 The Sequence Group

So freelancing it's crazy. I had the privilege to get to work on Halo 4 in my own small way. I never thought I would have a small part of something so big but this is how free lancing goes. You never know the opportunities that can come up.
The great folks over at Sequence contacted me to assist on the backgrounds for the in game terminal animations for Halo 4. Day in and day out painting and learning,  painting and learning. It was Awesome.  It was also one of the most challenging things I've ever done, there was so much work to do and we had to get smart on painting these efficiently.  These are a few of the background and shots I did. Big thanks to Andrew (AD) Graeme, Jace, and the producers Ian and Dan, 343 industries, and everyone else that worked on it, it was super fun.

Here is the Demo reel and big shout out to the animators and compositors they killed it too.

Counter/Story Online 2012

Counter story is a up coming kids free to play MMO by World Tribe.  I was fortunate enough to work on this project as my first contract on my free lance endeavor, and it was a nice challenge.  It was really refreshing to try my hand at stylized work.  There was a lot of challenges  as it needed a simple direct style but needed to be reminiscent of the real world.  Give them a "like" and check them out on Facebook Counter Story.

New year and a look back

Yeah so 2012... I've been super busy with freelancing so it's been a bit lean here on the blog.  However I do try to do studies when ever I can. Here are a batch from 2012.
I'll update it over the next couple of weeks with some freelance stuff. I don't have permission to post a bunch of it, but I'll post what I can.
This time last year I wouldn't of guess that I would have been able to make a living at this without a full time gig. It' been hard at times, I have worked almost 7  days a week since I got laid off. It's been fun though and, I never would have gotten the opportunists that I did in 2012 if I haven't lost my job. And yes it sucked to lose yet another job to issues outside my control. However Freelancing has given me a sense of ownership over my career and my life that I have never had since I lost my fist job back in 2008.  Freelancing  is hard but rewarding, I learned a lot, and I wouldn't of change how last year turned out if I could of.  Happy new year everyone.

attic

Finally had some time to get to this one. I started this one the same week I started doing free lance full time and been plugging away at it bit by bit. Glad to be done. And here is the work in progress steps.

blue bird

Been a while since my last post. busy with free lance (good thing) but almost no time for my own stuff.  I started this one late night last week with just a sketch and been plugging away at it during breaks from work.  Had some fun with this one.

sun set

Hedge funds, short selling, sub prime loans, and CDS. Been listening to the "Big Short" by Michael Lewis author of Money Ball, fascinating book about the financial collapse in 2008. Haven't painted anything in a while, busy with other freelance. Tried to keep it simple and zoomed way out.  I miss painting...
