CHALLENGE 17 Facebook Brainstorm Group
Vader with his induction Saber/Katana
Storm Trooper
Scout Trooper (Endor Trooper)
And the sketches for the initial ideas.
Re-Design Starwars Vader and Storm Troppers
And for any one interested what the inspiration was and how I thought about it.
Long ago in a land far, far away...
I imagined how would costumes look in a ww1 like setting level of technology. For the Star Wars story.
If History had taken a different turn?
If samurai aesthetic would have advance to the wars of the early 20th century?
How would this affect armor and there weapons?
What if the Matchlock/Flintlock guns had progressed to be on par if not superior to ww1 era guns?
And how would a Saber/Katana work with a plausible tech that could have been developed in that time period? With the same benefits that the light sabers have in the source material?
Like I said I had a lot of fun with this, perhaps too much fun? It was fascinating to research the history of Japan. As well as induction technology, and Matchlock/Flintlock's. It was a fun rabbit hole to follow.
I'll post hi-res versions at my art station.

Closing out 2014
2014 was the year of studies. Looking at my folder for 2014 most of it was studies. It's telling how much time I did not have to do many big images for my own. Something that I have to figure out for 2015. Studies are fun because there a exercise in observation and not creation. But having not created that much in 2014 has had a impact on my portfolio and my satisfaction and lack there of on my work. I am rarely happy with my work and if I am it's fleeting. If I have one resolution it is that, more creative work on my own. One lofty goal is to have enough to fill a small book full of work. But Goals are made to be achieved. We will see where I am in a year.

Master and coulour studies
Zorn! Anders Leonard Zorn so I had not heard of him until fairly recently. I heard of him on a podcast and after I picked up the pieces of my mind I needed to do a study. His painting style like Sargent look effortless. But he also looks like he was having a lot of fun. I tried to replicate the brush strokes as best I could. The mastery of this man was something else.
Some Mullins studies, I love the contrast in value on these. Seeing if I could capture it.
Shaddy Safadi has a series of videos on Alla Prima digital painting, there quite good. Everyone should check them out on his YouTube page. Really interesting technique it involves a under painting of really rich complementary colours. A very methodical and step driven technique, and a lot more enjoyable them it would seem. I'll have to try what I learned with this on a couple of production paintings in the future. "it's about looking good, not being good" that quote has helped in more ways then I think he knows. Just form a physiological point of view.

Beyond the Dead iOS
Back in May I started working at GREE Canada. It's a new Canadian studio. And our first game is beyond the dead. It's a zombie survival RPG. And some really amazing artist worked on it. Really inspiring stuff, these are some of the paintings I've done for it. I'll post more stuff as it gets release as were always adding new things to the game. I did mainly the backgrounds but I got to dabble in the character a bit.
Check it out on the app store: Beyond the Dead
